Comments
  • FUNCTION: Light-emitting reaction in luminous bacteria.
  • CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: RCHO + reduced FMN + O2 = RCOOH + FMN + H2O + light.
  • SUBUNIT: Heterodimer of an alpha and a beta chain.
  • MISCELLANEOUS: The synthesis of this protein is regulated by a complex control mechanism that has been termed autoinduction. In fully induced cells luciferase comprises up to 5% of the soluble protein.
  • MISCELLANEOUS: Strain ATCC 14547 is luminescent.
  • MISCELLANEOUS: Strain UM4102 is dimly luminescent.
  • MISCELLANEOUS: Strain UM4082 is non-luminescent.
