| Description: | Clostridium tetani is an anaerobic spore-forming bacterium whose natural habitat is soil and animal and human intestines. It is the causative agent of tetanus disease which is one of the most dramatic and prevalent diseases of human and vertebrate animals and has been reported for over 24 centuries. It is caused by the tetanus toxin, the second most poisonous substance known. This disease is controlled through immunization with tetanus toxoid (TT), however according to the WHO about 400,000 cases occur each year, mainly of neonatal tetanus. |
