| HAMAP: Campylobacter concisus (strain 13826) complete proteome |
| Species code: | CAMC1 |
| Taxonomy: | Bacteria; Proteobacteria; Epsilonproteobacteria; Campylobacterales; Campylobacteraceae; Campylobacter (TaxID: 360104) [NEWT/ NCBI] |
| Description: | Gram-negative, microaerophilic, flagellate, spiral bacterium, Campylobacter species are the leading cause of food-borne gastroenteritis in developed countries. Infection with C. jejuni is the most frequent antecedent to a form of neuromuscular paralysis known as Guillain-Barre syndrome. Although it has been historically associated with periodontal disease, C.concisus has also been identified as C.jejuni in not only human diarrhea but also from healthy individuals. It is composed of at least four phenotypically indistinguishable but genetically distinct taxa (i.e., genomospecies) that may vary in pathogenicity. Strain 13826 belongs to genomospecies 2. |
